All Giving Institute Members are welcome to attend the Giving Institute Board Meeting and Giving USA Board Meeting. Only Voting Directors are permitted to vote on motions during the Board Meetings. If you are interested in attending the Tuesday or Wednesday Evening Events, please be sure to add the additional tickets to your registration.

You're invited to a special pre-conference event at the beautiful Indy Artsgarden from 6:00-9:00pm, featuring a magnificent glass dome, ceiling-to-floor windows, steel trusses, and a grand staircase, The Artsgarden is just a short walk from the Conrad Hilton via the pedestrian connector. You can start your day off on the right foot with your peers and enjoy the local downtown Indianapolis area by taking a morning walk. Gina Haze, of JGA Counsel, an Indianapolis local, has mapped out two scenic routes to get your blood pumping and networking underway. On Thursday, join in on a 2.03-mile walk along the Indianapolis Canal, where paths and bridges are adorned with beautiful artwork. Friday's walk is both historic and spectacular, covering a 2.14-mile stretch that leads you to the Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument, a towering 284 ft 6 in neoclassical structure built on Monument Circle, a circular, brick-paved street that intersects Meridian and Market streets in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Leading both walks is Ben Golding, of Advancement Resources, ensuring you don't miss a beat while taking in the sights and networking with colleagues.

A presentation on the latest trends in the sector drawing from the Fundraising Effectiveness Project’s transactional data and the Giving USA report based off of IRS data. Combining granular trends identified in donor behavior, longitudinal donor transaction data, and aggregate data that nonprofits are reporting, Ben and Josh will unpack what the sector reports are telling us. Drawing on experiences working directly with nonprofits we will also talk through strategies that successful nonprofits have used to succeed.

The Generosity Commission: An Update and Plans for the Release of Recommendations

The Summer Symposium is pleased to have Jane Wales returning this year to give an
update on the work of the Generosity Commission. She’ll provide attendees with an overview of the Generosity Commission and why it matters to the landscape of understanding generosity in America. We’ll hear about the findings coming from the Commission’s research and what the Commission has learned about the current state of giving and volunteering in America. The Commission and its task forces are committed to furthering everyday giving and volunteering in whatever ways best reflect an individual’s passions, values, and life circumstances. The Commission is currently formulating recommendations for the policy sector, the business sector and the philanthropy and nonprofit sectors to enable more people to give and volunteer as these further civic participation in our democracy. These recommendations will be launched in the spring of 2024 and disseminated in the following months.

    Policies

    Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $150 for registrations will be issued on written cancellations received on or before June 11, 2023. Phone cancellations WILL NOT be accepted. Registrants assume full responsibility for notification to and verification of receipt by GI. All refunds will be processed 2-3 weeks after the meeting. Refunds on reception tickets will be refunded minus a $10 administrative fee if cancelled by the deadline.

    Refunds or credits will not be given for failure to attend, late arrival, flight/transportation cancellations, unattended events or early departure. In the rare event of a meeting cancellation, GI is not responsible for nor will provide refunds for costs associated with travel, airfare, hotel or transportation costs incurred by the registered attendee. It is always recommended that the registrant considering purchasing independent travel insurance.

    Giving Institute Summer Symposium registration fees are not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution but may be deductible as a business expense. Consult your tax advisor.

    Registration and attendance at or participation in the GI Summer Symposium constitutes an agreement by the registrant to GI's use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant or attendee's image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproduction and audiotapes of such events activities.
