Keynote Presentation: Overcoming the Competition for Connection through Radical Connection
Speaker: Nathan Chappell (Senior Vice President, DonorSearch; Co-author of Generosity Crisis)
The number of Americans making charitable gifts has reached an all-time low and statistics indicate the percentages of people giving to charity annually could decline into the single digits within 49 years.
This presentation will discuss the changing definition of generosity, shedding light on the unprecedented competition for connection facing modern nonprofit organizations. To this end, nonprofits must develop a renewed appreciation for connection and learn to leverage technology once only used by for-profit organizations. Using current data and analysis, attendees will learn the importance of measuring and prioritizing connection as well as which technologies can help them to work smarter, not harder to help overcome the competition for connection.
10:00am-12:00pm
Data + AI: The Future of Generosity
Facilitator: Sterrin Bird, CFRE (Senior Director, Nonprofit Industry Advisor, Salesforce)
The power of AI in support of
fundraising and revenue is grounded in sound data strategy and optimized CRM. Every organization must become a data-first fundraising organization - look no further than the Giving USA report to understand that personalization at scale is
the key to radically prioritizing resources (human and capital) to maximize revenue potential. Responsible use of AI is an invitation for every organization to get curious about practically deploying AI in support of revenue.
1:00-3:00pm
The Best Results Start with Great Discovery
Facilitator: Jim Bush (Principal, Winkler Group)
The keys to any successful project
are understanding the problem that needs to be solved and ensuring alignment on how to solve the problem.
Project discovery is one of the most crucial elements of effective project management but is sometimes skipped or rushed
due to pressure to deliver, the excitement of getting things started, or inexperience. In this hands-on workshop, Jim will share his experience and best practices for conducting a thorough and successful discovery phase.
3:30-4:30pm
Lightning Round Sessions
--- What You Think You See is Rarely All You Get Speakers: Angèle Bubna (Consultant, Executive Search, Campbell & Company) and
Joey Scheiber (Senior Consultant, Campbell & Company) - 10 minutes It’s no secret that all humans have biases. These thinking shortcuts help us get through our day, keeping preferences front and center so that the decisions we make, from our
outfit to our coffee order, don’t require us to evaluate the options from scratch every time. But when it comes to hiring decisions, biases we may not even recognize can short circuit the process and make us overlook qualified and compelling
candidates whose identity or experience might be outside what we assume ensures the best fit. This lightning round session, co-facilitated by two leaders in Campbell & Company’s Executive Search practice, will help bring less-considered
biases to light, provide tips and tricks for countering their impact on your next search, and help job seekers avoid common bias-activating missteps that can derail a career trajectory.
--- Implications of AI in the Talent Area Speaker: Deb Taft (CEO, LindauerGlobal) - 10 minutes Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a significant impact on the job market. The World Economic Forum predicts AI will replace 85 million
jobs globally by 2025, but also may create 97 million new roles. The types of jobs that AI creates will differ from those that are being lost. In this session, Deb will share insights about what opportunities and challenges may arise as
AI continues to evolve.
--- Leveraging LinkedIn to Build Your Personal Brand Speaker: Don Souhrada (President & CEO, Ter Molen Watkins & Brandt) - 10 minutes Building a personal brand on LinkedIn can help expand your network, grow your reputation, and establish yourself as an expert in your field. Don will share lessons he has learned during his career and provide you with strategies to help you build your own LinkedIn brand.
--- Acting Like an Expert from Day One Speaker: Summers Hammel (Consultant, Benefactor Group) and Ryan Woroniecki (Director of Business Development, Lighthouse Counsel) - 20 minutes Walking into the room and embracing your role as an expert can be intimidating, especially when you’re new to client-facing work. You may be counseling people who have more years of experience or impressive titles. Fear not – you have relevant expertise and skills, and you were hired for a reason! In this 20-minute lightning round, Ryan Woroniecki and Summers Hammel will help you think through lessons from the field and how to best apply them in client-facing situations. Highlights include: understanding and utilizing your current expertise; leveraging the team of experts around you ; and preparing for client-facing meetings.

Language that Lights Fires: Finding a Way to Navigate Polarizing Issues
Facilitator: Dr. Gloria A. Chance (CEO/Founder, The Mousai Group)
Words
have power. They can connect or divide. Create friends or enemies. Without clarity and common ground, words can foster generational misunderstandings, inflicting harm and holding us back from societal, personal or cultural advancement. But
words can also build the bedrock for new levels of progress, appreciation and humanity. If you doubt the power of words, ask yourself this: have you tip-toed around how to address a person or group of people for fear of “saying the wrong thing”
or offending them?
Specific language conveys inclusion and “being seen” and can provide confidence in our connections with friends, family, or colleagues. However, it’s easy for those not impacted by injustice or discrimination to
downplay the power of words. Language drives our conscious minds but also embeds itself deeply in our unconscious where it drives how we think, feel and act—and how we treat each other.
Dr. Chance will facilitate an audience discussion on words, phrases, and concepts that have entered our collective lexicon but are being met with confusion or even hostility by some, while welcomed and celebrated by many. Where are the triggers with this new language and how can we move past what is potentially
blocking progress or understanding?
10:30am-12:00pm

We are excited to welcome special guest, John List, cofounder of the Science of Philanthropy Initiative (SPI) and Homer J. Livingston Professor and Chairman in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, who will provide and overview of SPI and give us a perspective on academic research advancing the field of philanthropy.
